An elderly Vancouver man has succumbed to his injuries after being assaulted during a conflict outside of a downtown Costco last month.

Around 11 a.m. on December 20, an 86-year-old man was pushed to the ground by a 57-year-old man during an altercation on Expo Boulevard outside Costco (located near the Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain Station and Rogers Arena). The elderly man sustained injuries after hitting his head on the ground.

While the suspect fled the scene on foot, others moved in to perform first aid upon him. Although he was swiftly taken to hospital by ambulance, the Vancouver Police Department announced today (January 12) that he has died.

The 57-year-old suspect was arrested at his East Vancouver home two hours after the incident. Although he was released, the investigation is ongoing and any witnesses are asked to contact investigators at 604-717-2541.
