A 24-year-old driver died in an early-morning car accident in East Vancouver on Sunday.

After 5 a.m. on April 23, police responded to a call about a single-car that had collided into a power pole on Commercial Drive near Victoria Drive.

The driver from Burnaby, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene. His identity has not been revealed.

The Vancouver Police Department's Collision Investigation Unit is working to determine the cause of crash.

This is the third motor-vehicle-related fatality in 2017 in Vancouver.

Meanwhile two other accidents involving SUVs occurred on the weekend.

Around 8:30 a.m. on April 22, an SUV crashed into the northwest corner of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel at Burrard and West Cordova streets near the popular gelato shop Bella Gelateria in Coal Harbour.

Then around 9 p.m. on the same day, a black SUV tried to turn left on Cambie on to West 8th Avenue but hit a silver car in the intersection and flipped over. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to rescue an occupant in the SUV who was trapped.
