A former media personality from Winnipeg will be in an Alberta court on Tuesday (October 24) after being charged with robbery.

Medicine Hat police allege that Stephen Vogelsang held up two banks in that city on October 19 and 20.

"In each incident the same male entered the businesses and demanded a sum of money and then fled each scene with an undisclosed amount of cash," the department said in a news release.

In the 1990s Vogelsang was the news director and sports anchor at Winnipeg's CKY, which now goes by the name of CTV Winnipeg.

He also taught journalism at Red River College for a decade until he resigned in 2012.

According to CBC News, Vogelsang lived in the B.C. city of Nelson after leaving the college and before moving back to Winnipeg in 2015.

He reportedly faced financial problems in connection with three properties in Nelson and a home in Winnipeg.
