The British Columbia Lottery Corporation is advising those who played its new $3 Road to Riches lottery yesterday (June 6) to recheck the scratch-and-win tickets.

In an early-evening (6:09 p.m.) bulletin released today (June 7), the Crown corporation said that because of an error in the program that validates the winners, anyone who bought the brand-new product (June 6 was the first day the ticket was available) should recheck the ticket.

Players can go to any BCLC retail outlet to recheck their tickets, call 1-866-815-0222, or they can use the Lotto!App.

BCLC said in the release, "We sincerely apologize to our valued players for the error." It also said that it became aware that there was a problem after someone who purchased a ticket on June 6 that contained scratched symbols that matched a prize received a "not a winner" message when the ticket was checked at a terminal.

In total, the bulletin said, about 1,898 tickets were checked yesterday. Of those, approximately 503 were winners but got a “not a winner” message. Of those winning tickets, 98 percent had won prizes ranging from free tickets to $3 to $15 cash prizes. Only one of the winners was for more than $30 ($100).

"Out of an abundance of caution, BCLC later suspended validations for the $3 Road to Riches game while it reviewed the issue," it stated. "As of approximately 5 a.m. on June 7, 2022, BCLC has tested and confirmed that validations for this game are now working as expected and indicating accurately whether a ticket has won or not."

BCLC said that "no other ticket was impacted by this error related to the loading of validation files into BCLC’s gaming system".
