The Vancouver Canucks have tried to beef up their scoring by snaring a free-agent sniper from the Kontinental Hockey League.

Andrei Kuzmenko, a 26-year-old left winger, posted an image of himself today in a Canucks jersey.

He scored 20 goals and posted 33 assists last year in 45 games for SKA St. Petersburg—which is known literally as the "Sports Club of the Russian Army".

It's owned by the state-controlled Gazprom energy company, which is the world's largest natural-gas firm by revenues.

As this article was being posted, the Canucks had not yet made it official that they had signed Kuzmenko.

Last year, the team scored 249 goals, ranking fourth in this category in the Pacific Division.

The Canucks missed the playoffs despite posting 92 points.

      Update

The Canucks jointly announced with NHL agent Dan Milstein that Kuzmenko has "committed"  to playing for the Canucks but the contract details still need to be finalized.

"I have been watching Andrei since his 2014-15 season and have been impressed with his development and improvement on the ice," said Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin. "Once the contract details are finalized, we look forward to welcoming him to the Canucks organization and helping him continue to grow as a hockey player."
