Investigators are working to determine what happened after an infant in Metro Vancouver died under what are being considered “suspicious circumstances”.

According to an Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) news release issued today (July 29) that around 4:20 a.m. on July 24, New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) officers responded to a call about an unresponsive one-year-old infant in the 1300 block of 5th Avenue in New Westminster.

When investigators completed an assessment and determined suspicious circumstances of the death, NWPD called in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

IHIT is working with the NWPD and the B.C. Coroners Service on the investigation.

Investigators are currently speaking with family and friends to determine more details about the circumstances of the death.

The NWPD stated that there isn’t any ongoing public safety issue, and consequently, no further details are being released.

Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact IHIT by calling its information line at 1-877-551-4448 or by email.
