Although a Calgary man remains missing, the search for him in British Columbia has been called off.

Marshal Iwaasa, a 26-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, had left his family’s residence in Lethbridge, Alberta, on November 17 to return to his Calgary home but hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

When Iwaasa’s burned-out truck was discovered near Pemberton, B.C. (north of Whistler), on November 25, his family reported him as missing.

Global News reported that a group of hikers in the B.C. backcountry discovered the torched vehicle with belongings scattered around it, including two passports (an expired one belonging to Iwaasa), three smashed cellphones, a smashed laptop, a Playstation, an Xbox, clothing, and toiletries.

Whistler and Pemberton RCMP subsequently discontinued their search for him last week due to a lack of leads, according to the Squamish Chief. However, the investigation into his disappearance remains ongoing.

Iwaasa, who has relatives in the Lower Mainland, is described as being 180 centimetres (five-feet, 11-inches) tall.

He has brown eyes, curly shoulder-length brown hair (which he usually wears tied back), and a mustache.

He was last seen wearing a green hoodie, a grey toque, red high-top shoes, and black pants.  

His truck is described as a dark blue 2009 GMC Sierra with Alberta license plate BLL 1099.

A Facebook group has been established to organize efforts in the search for him by relatives, friends, and communities.
