Here's something that might surprise you.

Six of the top eight B.C. bestselling books of all publication dates in 2020 were written or coauthored by Indigenous authors.

The Association of B.C. Book Publishers just released the list of the Top 20 bestsellers published in 2020, as well as the Top 20 with all publication dates.

On the latter list, Bob Joseph's 2018 smash hit, 21 Things You Didn't Know About the Indian Act, came in first place.

Three novels by deceased Indigenous author Richard Wagamese were in second, third, and fifth place. And books coauthored by First Nations artist Roy Henry Vickers came seventh and eight.

Topping the list of B.C. bestsellers published in 2020 was Victoria author and photographer Cheryl Alexander's Takaya: Lone Wolf. Her book ranked fourth among all B.C. titles, regardless of the year in which they were published.

The first list below features the Top 20 bestsellers published in B.C. in 2020.

That's followed by a list of the Top 20 bestsellers published in B.C. of all publication dates.
