The Vancouver International Film Festival’s 2014 B.C. Spotlight Gala takes place at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton Street) on Saturday (October 4) at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s audience must-see-B.C. film winner is Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story, which will be shown at the gala event. Filmmakers Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin dive into the issue of food waste, from farm through retail. After seeing how much good food is tossed out every year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive solely on foods that otherwise would be discarded.

Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story features interviews with TED lecturer, author, and activist Tristram Stuart and acclaimed author Jonathan Bloom. The film also looks at our systemic obsession with expiry dates, perfect produce, and portion sizes.

Tickets to the B.C. Spotlight Gala can be purchased online in advance.
