It’s that time of year when Lower Mainland food lovers celebrate some of the healthiest crops on the planet. This year, Organic Week takes place across Canada from Saturday to next Sunday (September 19 to 27).

According to the Canada Organic Trade Association, there are approximately 5,000 organic farms, processors, and handlers across the country. As well, 825,000 hectares of land have been allocated to the production of organic foods.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Agriculture announced that it was consulting with the industry concerning regulating the term organic. One proposal would require that all products identified as organic be certified by a national or provincial program.
