If you haven’t heard, there is a 24-karat gold leaf piano sitting in a Richmond music shop that’s selling for over half a million dollars.

And if you decide to purchase the 7'6" beauty, you will also be gifted a commissioned painting created by local artist Michael Abraham.

The artwork was unveiled yesterday at Showcase Pianos (#3480-4151 Hazelbridge Way), which houses the Italian handmade piano.

Titled “Serenading the Greats”, the painting features a young boy playing on a smaller version of the gold leaf piano, surrounded by sculptures of classical musicians and composers coming alive while listening to the music.

“I was thinking I’d love to do a Midas touch, where someone is touching a piano and turning it into gold,” Abraham told the Straight.

This was before the artist found out that he would coincidentally be creating a painting for a gold leaf grand piano.

With a serene moonlit background, the commissioned work is estimated to be worth around $22,000, including the frame.

“Fazioli is an Italian piano and I studied in Italy, and I just thought a moonlit silhouetted dreamlike Italian background would be a neat thing to paint,” added Abraham.

Manuel A. Bernaschek, owner of Showcase Pianos, told the Straight that this is one of the many works of art he wants to commission to complement their instruments.

“To create more excitement on the piano, I’ve always wanted to commission paintings related to the piano in this fantasy situation,” said Bernaschek.

Digital prints of the painting ($890) are also available for purchase.
