June 29–July 4: Truvelle sample sale
If a walk down the aisle is in your near future, take note: iconoclastic bridal line Truvelle is holding a sample sale at its flagship store (235 Cambie Street) from now until Monday (July 4). The Vancouver-born brand is known for its handcrafted gowns that defy typical wedding-day conventions, and for one weekend only, select gowns from its 2014, 2015, and 2016 collections will be up to 50 percent off. Expect modern dresses decorated with rose-gold sequins, hand-beaded lace, and fantastic ombre dip-dyes that, somehow, still manage to remain timeless. Forget off-the-rack and sample sizes only—the event’s Facebook page notes that many sizes will be available, so get your bridal party on board and make a day of it.
June 30: Front & Company Summer Nights
Front & Company (3772 Main Street) is kicking off its monthly Summer Nights tonight (June 30) at 7 p.m. The premiere event will see the consignment shop teaming up with local vintage pop-up Hocus Rocus to offer shoppers a wide range of new and gently used fashions, footwear, and accessories. One lucky shopper will win a draw for 40 percent off his or her entire purchase, and live entertainment and complimentary refreshments from Steamworks Brewing Company will also be available. Can’t make tonight’s event? Front & Company will be hosting its Summer Nights on the last Thursday of every month until August.
July 1: Chinatown Mall Canada Day market
Chinatown Mall—a local pop-up market series for local designers—is hosting a Canada Day sale this Friday (July 1) from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Fortune Sound Club (147 East Pender Street). The one-day-only event will spotlight emerging and established designers from at home and abroad, who will pack Fortune’s two levels with an eclectic mix of men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, footwear, and art. Browse funky rope jewellery by Pattern Nation, upcycled streetwear by JBGear, graphic Ts and tanktops by Ouroboros Supply Co., and more. Entertainment will be provided by a host of DJs and surprise musical guests, and you can also expect to find the bar serving up food and drinks.
Admission to the sale is $2 at the door.
July 1–3: Loft183 pop-up shop
Celebrate Canada Day long weekend by supporting local at the Loft183 pop-up shop. The event runs from this Friday to Sunday (July 1 to 3) at 434 Columbia Street, and will feature an assortment of men’s and women’s clothing, home items, jewellery, and accessories—all of which are either handcrafted in, or provided by sellers based in Vancouver. Shop patterned bikinis and sunglasses from online shop So Hazy, modern wood furnishings by Boneyard Reclaimed Bespoke Furniture, restored vintage toppers by Westcoast Hatters, and more.
July 2: Vintage & Handmade Society summer market
Vancouver’s Vintage & Handmade Society is hosting its summer pop-up shop this Saturday (July 2)—this time, at the paleo-friendly Caveman Cafe (inside the International Village Mall at 88 West Pender Street). As with past VHS pop-ups, you can expect a range of handmade goodies like West Coast–inspired bling by Shape & Strike Jewelry, organic skincare and beauty products from Jack & Audrey’s, metaphysical art and crystals from Earth Meets Spirit, and more. Tarot card readings will be conducted onsite and you can also freshen up at a mini-makeover booth.
