The Utica Comets missed the American Hockey League playoffs this year, but that's not likely to stop the parent team from hiring its head coach.

Today, the Vancouver Canucks are widely expected to appoint Travis Green as their new skipper.

The 46-year-old former NHL centre would replace the recently fired Willie Desjardins.

In four years behind the Comets' bench, Green never had a losing record. The team made it to the Calder Cup final in 2014-15 and lost in the semifinals in the following season.

Green was born in Castlegar, B.C., and played for five NHL teams, scoring 162 goals and posting 262 assists before retiring after the 2006-07 season.
