If you’re the type to use your PVR for anything airing on the Food Network, you’ll want to know about a new annual film and food festival that’s launching this weekend in Osoyoos.

Taking place May 6 to 8, the Devour! Okanagan at Watermark Beach Resort will see B.C. chefs teaming up to prepare a six-course meal (on Saturday night [May 7]), with each course paired with an original short food-themed film (and a selection of Similkameen wines).

Vancouver’s Ricardo Valverde, executive chef of Ancora Waterfront Dining & Patio, and Felix Zhou, executive chef of Beach Bay Cafe & Patio, will be participating.

Devour! Okanagan at Watermark Beach Resort is a mini version of Nova Scotia’s Devour! The Food Film Fest, which is billed as the largest culinary film festival in the world. Launched by chef Michael Howell in 2009, that five-day Wolfville event features tasting tours, a chowder smackdown, a food truck rally, and food-related movies on the big screen.

Chef Howell is a proponent of the Slow Food movement; in keeping with that theme, Watermark Beach Resort will transform its boardwalk into a Slow Food Market on Saturday, with local artisans and producers selling fare and wares.

The weekend kicks off with an East vs. West Showdown, where chef Howell will battle it out with resort chef, Adair Scott, while Jonathon Crofts from Codfathers Seafood Market in Gibsons will be on hand to shuck oysters. More info on these and other Devour! events is at www.watermarkbeachresort.com.
