The Hood Internet at the Rickshaw Theatre

Sometimes the best way to educate yourself about folks who may be a little off your radar is to look at the company they keep. Take, for example, Chicago-based mashup kings the Hood Internet. The duo of Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (aka STV SLV) have been blending the best of street-level hip-hop, gold-standard indie rock, and classic pop since 2007. Along the way, they’ve worked with the likes of Cadence Weapon and Doomtree collective’s MC Sims, mixed tracks for the blog-blessed Das Racist, and been cited as an inspiration by the Ting Tings. As impressive as that list is, it does nothing to prepare one for the dance-party detonation that’ll be taking place at the Rickshaw Theatre on Friday (August 16). Ever wonder what Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” would sound like when thrown into a burlap sack with Dizzee Rascal’s “Fix Up, Look Sharp”? Let the Hood Internet show you the way.
