Fiona Apple roasts Trump's nuts in a reworking of a Christmas classic

Once the darling of alternative America thanks to ’90s hits like “Criminal”, Fiona Apple has kept something of a low profile since the release of her last album, 2012’s critically lauded The Idler Wheel...

But proving that Donald Trump is probably going to be as great for inspiring protest art as he is bad for America, the 39-year-old singer has resurfaced just in time for Christmas.

Looking vaguely like a cat lady who’s been on three-day bender with Sailor Jerry, Apple has posted a YouTube video in which she reworks "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)" into an a cappella trashing of America’s next president. Sample lyrics from "Trump's Nuts Roasting on an Open Fire" include “Everyone knows that money and entitlement/Can help to make the season white” and Mothers of color with their kids out of sight/Will find it hard to sleep at night/They know that Trump is on his way.”

Apple finishes the video by ripping up a picture of the President-elect, which is what she also likely did with the instruction manual for her iPhone. (Um, you can make sure those annoying giant black bars don't show up by turning the device horizontal when you’re ready to record).

Still, as is often the case at this time of year, it’s the thought that counts.
