Bend Sinister's Dan Moxon to get bohemian at the Academic Public House

The disgustingly talented Dan Moxon of Bend Sinister began a month-long residency at the Academic Public House (1619 West Broadway) on June 1. Rock Never Dies is the name of the weekly Wednesday-night event, which finds the keyboardist-vocalist indulging his (and your) passion for classic rock.

“I spent the last year in Toronto,” Moxon told the Straight, “and I saw a lot of artists there that had their bigger band, but they were still doing residencies at little bars around town.”

Moxon said we should expect covers of tunes by Elton John, Queen, Billy Joel, and Supertramp, among others. “All the stuff that I like to play,” he said, adding that sponsor Phillips Brewing Company is giving him 30 or so beer tickets to fling into the crowd each night. This thing is starting to sound better and better. If we’re really lucky, Moxon said he’ll be signing off at the end of June with a one-man version of a certain Queen hit. “My goal,” he said, “by the very last week, I will perform ”˜Bohemian Rhapsody’ live! It’s a promise.”
