Mounties in the Fraser Valley have seized nearly 4,000 cannabis plants following a raid in Chilliwack.

On November 16, officers from three different teams in the Upper Fraser Valley Detachment executed a search warrant at a property on Sweltzer Creek Road, not far from Cultus Lake.

According to a news release, RCMP became interested in the property after a call requesting police assistance was made from the premises on November 7. At the scene, officers noted strange mechanical noises and suspicious structures that led them to believe there might be drugs on the property.

A search warrant was obtained and a total of 3,800 cannabis plants were seized. Three men were taken into custody and eventually released. RCMP will submit the circumstances of the case to the Crown for an assessment of charges.

In the release, spokesperson Corporal Mike Rail credited "alert general duty officers and timely investigation by the Crime Reduction Unit" for "preventing a large quantity of drugs from reaching the streets of our community."
