Vancouver doesn’t get its reputation as Canada’s craft-beer capital for nothing. That kind of status takes years of work, and passion, and pints. Before everyone else jumped on the brew-loving bandwagon, Vancouver Craft Beer Week (VCBW) was launching its now famous celebration of craft beer and cider. That was 10 years ago.

Since its humble beginnings as Canada’s first-ever craft-beer week, the 10-day citywide celebration has evolved into a cultural engine showcasing music, food, art, and, of course, craft beer. Visitors from across the country and beyond descend on the city to enjoy a packed schedule of events and programming.

But even for those who have been before, this year’s VCBW, taking place May 31 to June 9, promises to be the best yet. It all starts with the Kickoff Party at the Beaumont Studios (316 West 5^th Avenue) on May 31, which will set the tone for this special milestone year.

Organizers have chosen an aluminum theme since it’s the 10^th anniversary metal, so all beverages—a large selection from local craft breweries in addition to alternatives like Nude Vodka Soda, Coco Frio, Odd Society Spirits Ginger, and Cocos-Pure—will be served in cans. Partygoers are also encouraged to come dressed in their favourite silver, sparkling, and glittering bests for the occasion.

DownLow Chicken Shack will be on-site cooking up some delicious eats at the backyard party. Guests can also enjoy the musical stylings of Mark Woodyard, Coach Fernley, and K-Tel.

The official VCBW party takes place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., but those who wish to stay a little longer are in luck, since ArtSee will be taking over until late. ArtSee is an evolving interactive visual and performing arts series that takes place on the last Friday of every month at the Beaumont Studios. VCBW caps off the celebrations at the award-winning VCBW Festival at the PNE Fairgrounds on June 8 and 9. Attendees can enjoy two days of outdoor entertainment, live music, games, food trucks, and more than 100 craft breweries and cideries pouring 300 beers and ciders. Single-day and weekend passes and VIP tickets are available for purchase on the website. But one lucky beer lover can also win four tickets (see below).
