Kelowna's Peak Pride and Alberta's Jasper Pride Festival keep the LGBT ski events going

While you may associate Pride with sunshine and summertime parades and events, we're in the midst of snowy Pride season, which has gotten well underway and continues on next month. (How can you tell we're in Canada?)

Whistler Pride 2018 wrapped up at the end of January (the 2019 edition will be held from January 20 to 27), but two more ski-resort Pride events are gearing up to go on the slopes.

First up, Peak Pride will be held at Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna from April 6 to 8.

New this year is the Pride Culinary Walk, in which four participating restaurants will offer samplings of featured dishes paired with a specialty beverage. A new mountain challenge, called Chase the Rainbow, is also new this year, though details have not yet been revealed about what it entails.

Also being introduced this year is a 15-percent discount on hotel rooms and two-day lift passes.

The three-day festival also includes a bunch of events, including a games night, a beer garden, a Pride parade, a party with Calgary's DJ Dopamine and drag queens, and a Sunday brunch.

      Jasper Pride Festival

After that, the Jasper Pride Festival runs from April 19 to 22 in Alberta.

Things get underway with a Pride flag raising and a kick-off party (including a separate party for teens).

The weekend schedule is packed with a broad range of activities that should offer a little something for everyone, whether you want to do something indoors or outdoors.

There's everything from a yoga class, an LGBT rights letter-writing session, a book reading, and a youth workshop to motorcycle tours, food tours, a comedy show, a line-dancing workshop, and hikes.

Needless to say, both events feature skiing and snowboarding, as well as other outdoor activities.
