The RCMP has recovered the body of an avalanche victim near Cabin Lake.

It's nearly 60 kilometres southwest of the B.C. city of Merritt in the Nicola Valley.

The man was snowmobiling with another man, who survived when the avalanche occurred in the early afternoon on January 4.

No names have been released and the B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.

Meanwhile, Avalanche Canada is warning against travel in avalanche terrain in the South Coast inland area.

"A touchy weak layer in the north of the region requires particular caution," it states on its website.

In the Sea to Sky area, Avalanche Canada is cautioning that "natural and human-triggered avalanches are very likely, with the potential for very large avalanches to reach the valley bottom".

As for the South Coast, the organization says an intense storm will create "very dangerous avalanche conditions". Travel in this terrain is not recommended.
