Local goldsmith and jewellery designer Andrew Costen recently took home an award for best use of platinum and colour for his innovative “Symphony of Colour” Flexifit bracelet.

The award was presented by The American Gem Trade Association at the 32nd annual Spectrum Awards event held in New York—regarded as the world’s top coloured gemstone and pearl design competition.

This isn’t the first time the Canadian designer has received an award—Costen has won over 30 national and international awards, including De Beers Diamonds Today, the 2013 International AGTA Spectrum Award, and the Canadian Jeweller’s Editor’s Choice Award, among others.

He has trained and worked with top designer goldsmiths and jewellery houses in London where he created pieces for clients including Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, and Robin Williams.

Costen designs and hand fabricates fine jewellery at Costen Catbalue Goldsmiths and Design (1832 West 1st Avenue), which he co-shares with award-winning designer Mary Ann Buis.
