Vancouver Whitecaps dealt a blow with injury to Kei Kamara

It hasn’t been a good few days for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

On Friday, the club lost 2-0 to the expansion Los Angeles FC, unable to generate much of anything offensively.

Making matters worse, it was confirmed yesterday that Whitecaps striker Kei Kamara would be out several weeks after injuring his groin.

It’s a massive blow to the Whitecaps, who have only scored eight goals this season in seven games. Three of those goals have come from Kamara, who also has contributed two assists. He’s tied for the lead on the team in both categories, and also paces the team in shots with 10.

Without Kamara, who was injured in practice the day before the game, the Whitecaps managed just eights shots to LAFC’s 16.

In short, Kamara, through both his chemistry with young forward Alphonso Davies and his ability to create chances on his own, is one of Vancouver's best players. The 33-year-old Sierra Leone native has been an absolute boon to the team since coming over in a trade with New England in the offseason.

Kamara has been well worth the two high draft picks the Caps surrendered for him, and fans of the club have to be hoping that he can return shortly. There’s already fear from the Whitecaps faithful that losing the forward could mean sliding down the standings. With a 3-3-1 record and a minus-3 goal differential thus far, those worries aren’t unfounded.
