Homemade explosive detonated at house in Coquitlam

      An investigation is underway into a homemade explosive that detonated in a Coquitlam residential neighbourhood yesterday.

      RCMP reported that an explosion occurred around 7:20 p.m. on August 14, causing serious injuries to a male resident at a house located in the 1400 block of Ross Avenue in Coquitlam. His injuries were not life-threatening.

      The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit located and disarmed a second item of concern, and are continuing to work today to ensure safety in the area.

      Anyone who witnessed or heard anything that may help investigators determine the circumstances that led to the explosion is asked to contact the Investigative Support Team on the Coquitlam RCMP non-emergency line at 604-945-1550 (file 2018-25330).
