The Mounties say nobody was injured after smoke was detected yesterday from a Richmond residence believed to contain a synthetic drug lab.

Roadblocks were set up in the area around the home in the 11000 block of Kingfisher Drive in Steveston.

People in the neighbourhood were evacuated while emergency responders could assess the situation.

Last night, the RCMP said in a news release that officers will remain in the area all weekend.

In addition, certain unnamed roads will remain closed.

“These situations are extremely dynamic and pose a high risk to emergency personnel as well as members of the public” Cpl. Adriana Peralta said in the release. “Fortunately, we were able to secure the area quickly and no one was injured”.

Members of the Richmond RCMP's organized crime unit are investigating.
