Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has issued a recall and public health warning not to eat eight products manufactured and sold by Polonia Sausage House.

The meat sausages were sold between August 1 and November 2 of this year at four Polonia outlets in Vancouver and Surrey. VCH claimed that there is "possible bacterial contamination" associated with the products, including those caused by E. coli 0157:H7, listeria, and other, unnamed, bacteria.

In a November 5 media release, VCH said it was discovered during an inspection that "these products were not processed using a validated method consistent with food safety standards. The retailer has stopped selling the items and is fully cooperating. No illnesses have been reported linked to these products."

The products that are affected by the recall are:

      • cervelat salami
      • Polish salami
      • Ziger salami
      • Hungarian salami
      • chorizo
      • Polish smoked sausage
      • hot Hungarian
      • Gypsy salami

Customers are asked to either throw away any of these products they may have or return them to the originating store.

The Polonia stores that sold the sausages, in varying sizes and weights, are located at the following addresses:

      • Vancouver Sausage
        2434 E Hastings Street, Vancouver
      • Vancouver Deli
        4286 Fraser Street, Vancouver
