North Vancouver’s Lower Lonsdale neighbourhood has exploded over the last decade.

The area that was once little more than a shipping yard and Lonsdale Quay now hosts a lively food scene, a new art gallery, and condo towers that seem to sprout up faster than weeds.

The soon-to-be-latest addition to Lower Lonsdale is a university.

“At the end of August, 2019, Capilano University will take occupancy of the second floor of 125 Victory Ship Way to deliver educational programs and services beginning in the fall term,” a media release states. “The new space will provide students with an exceptional learning and teaching environment that can also be adapted for meetings and community use.”

Capilano University president Paul Dangerfield is quoted there describing Lower Lonsdale as an ideal location for the new satellite campus.

"CapU Lonsdale represents an exceptional opportunity for us to broaden our outreach and community contributions, strengthen local connections and provide a strong selection of our programming in a central location on the North Shore," he said.

The new campus will serve as a headquarters for Capilano University’s continuing studies and executive education programs. In addition, all five Capilano University faculties will have a presence at the new school in Lower Lonsdale. The release notes the expansion will also free up space at Capilano University’s main campus and allow for additional programs there.

“Featuring 15-foot-high ceilings and a 60-foot-long balcony, the innovative design of CapU Lonsdale—by DIALOG—will reflect Capilano University's relationship to the West Coast,” the release adds. “Looking out towards the ocean, the space will serve as a reprieve from urban surroundings and brings a sense of adventure, exploration and enlightenment indoors to create a sense of discovery through learning.”
