Vancouver police have arrested a third suspect after a series of shootings took place in the Downtown Eastside on September 22.

Around 6 p.m. on September 22, shots were fired near East Pender and Abbott streets. A 28-year-old man from Langley and a 25-year-old man from Surrey were both injured in the incident.

It was the third shooting in the Downtown Eastside within a 15-hour period.

On September 26, officers arrested 29-year-old Joseph Bassett of no fixed address without incident. Bassett, who remains in custody, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and several weapons offences.

Previously, police arrested 26-year-old Joseph Brown and 31-year-old Desirae Lorell Cardinal for a separate shooting near the Grand Union Hotel on September 23.

Yet another separate shooting took place near East Hastings Street and Dunlevy Avenue around 6:30 a.m. on September 22 is still under investigation. A 50-year-old man from Surrey was hospitalized with serious injuries after that shooting.

VPD spokeperson Const. Steve Addison stated in a news release that the shootings appear to be targeted and gang-related. Const. Addison also said that investigators are still exploring any possible connections between the three shootings.

Anyone with any information about these shootings is asked to contact the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
