Westin Bayshore reportedly sold to Concord Pacific
The Westin Bayshore may be best known as the hideout for billionaire Howard Hughes when he was fleeing U.S. tax authorities in the early 1970s.
Others will never forget the Trader Vic's, the famous Polynesian-styled bar that closed in 1996.
Today, the Vancouver Sun reported that the landmark hotel along Vancouver's Coal Harbour has been sold to Concord Pacific.
No one is confirming the transaction, but a representative of a rival bidder estimated the final price to be in the $290-million range.
Avison Young's Bob Levine told the Sun that the development giant is probably hoping that in the future, the city will allow a new plan for the site. Hence the sky-high price.

When billionaires are betting that the City of Vancouver will continue to approve higher bldgs and future developments that will further erode affordabilty and liveability you can be sure Joe and Jane Doe are just 'grist for the mill' with a complicent Vancouver City Hall all to eager to feed the hopper.
For all those that supported EXPO 86 and the 2010 Winter Olympic Games give yourselves at pat on the back, being priced out of town couldn't have happened without you.
Next on the menu, a review of view cones. With more short people moving to Vancouver are they still relevant.

Prime real estate with a profitable hotel/marina complex and adjacent to the biggest jewel in city parks. No big surprises here. We should be glad it wasn't Trump.

"Bubba":
How about written by Charlie on his way out the door as the story broke so as to be able to inform our readers, most of whom don't read the Sun?
(And you actually need to audition for VCB?)

Too bad to have the Bayshore with it's open space be replaced with probably more high end condos, hotels etc.
Thank goodness for the occupation way back in the 70's of what was called "All Seasons Park" at the entrance to Stanley Park at Georgia.
It was this action saved that piece of land from being developed into The Four Seasons Hotel.
If it wasn't for those visionary activists that whole side of the street would be a wall of concrete.
