For the past couple of years, Frank Corrado has been seen as a defenceman of the future for the Vancouver Canucks.

But today, the team placed him on waivers along with fellow blueliner Alex Biega and forward Linden Vey.

If they're not snapped up by another team, the trio will be assigned to the Utica Comets, which is the Canucks' farm team.

Vey, 24, scored 10 goals and 14 assists last year in his only year with the Canucks. He was minus-3 at even strength in 75 games.

Corrado, 22, had one assist and was minus-7 in 10 games with the Canucks last year.

Biega, 27, had one assist and was minus-2 in seven games.

In the off-season, the Canucks signed defencemen Matt Bartkowski and Yannick Weber to one-year contracts. Another defenceman, Ben Hutton, impressed fans with his play during the pre-season.

Young forwards Sven Baertschi, Jared McCann, and Jake Virtanen also played well in the pre-season, making Vey expendable.
