An investigation is underway to identify human remains that were recovered in the Fraser Valley yesterday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced today (March 30) that at 10 a.m. on March 29, Upper Fraser Valley RCMP responded to a report about human remains found in the area south of Silver Creek in Hope, B.C.

As the circumstances were deemed suspicious, IHIT has taken over the investigation while working with RCMP, Integrated Forensic Identification Services, and the B.C. Coroners Service.

Investigators are continuing to collect evidence working to identify the individual and notify the next of kin.

IHIT isn't offering any further information at this time.
