The woman charged with mischief for burning the Pride rainbow flag at UBC on February 9 pleaded not guilty during her appearance in Richmond Provincial Court on May 17.

Brooklyn Marie Fink, who identifies as transsexual, admitted to burning the flag during UBC's OUTweek but has told media that she views her actions as a political protest against the inclusion of transsexual people in LGBT representation.

She has also told media that LGBT politics have ruined her life as she has been trying to live her life as a woman.

She will appear in court for a pre-trial application on January 12, 2017, and her case is scheduled for a three-day trial starting on March 15.

Previously, she appeared in court on April 26 when her dismissal application was rejected.

On the same day as her court appearance on May 17, Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould introduced a bill to include transgender rights in the Canadian Human Rights Acts and the Criminal Code.
