Granville Island Brewing officially has a new brewmaster, as of May 25.

According to GIB's website, Kevin Emms has joined the brewery. He comes from Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers, and started his career at Coal Harbour Brewing after finishing his masters in brewing and distilling from Heriot-Watt University in the UK.

Emms takes over for Vern Lambourne, who was brewmaster at GIB for 13 years. Lambourne left the brewery in February 2015 to do brewery consulting work. Nick Posloski from Creemore Springs Brewing has been overseeing the brewery in the interim.

In Q&A blog, Emms is asked about his signature style and responds that he likes to work with rye grain. "I’m also into Munich style lagers and after training in the UK I’ve got a soft spot for British ales and basically all Belgian beers," he says.

One of the beers Emms is thinking about brewing for winter is a strong Belgian Tripel ale with a hint of coriander.
