Best actress Oscar: Sandra Bullock beats Meryl Streep

Believe it or not, The Blind Side's Sandra Bullock managed to beat Julie and Julia's Meryl Streep.

Bullock, upon receiving the award, quipped, "Did I really earn this or did I just wear you all down?"

She portrayed an affluent white woman who adopts an African-American teenager and helps to change his life.

Bullock's win comes on the heels of her win of a Razzie worst actress award for All About Steve. She makes history by being the first actor win both a best acting Oscar on the same weekend as winning a worst acting Razzie.

Showing her good-natured sense of humour, she showed up to accept the award. (Halle Berry had done the same, though she won her Oscar and Razzie in different years.)

Streep, who portrayed the iconic Julia Child in Julie & Julia, has had a record 16 nominations, but only two wins: Kramer vs. Kramer (1980) and Sophie's Choice (1983).

Last year, Streep lost to Kate Winslet.

Bullock also beat The Last Station's Helen Mirren, An Education's Carey Mulligan, and Precious' Gabourey Sidibe.

The Oscar was presented by last year's best actor winner Sean Penn (Milk).

Well deserved for Sandra , I mean the Oscar...
All about Steve is not bad acting, but America does not like to show ordinary americans on movies.
