Mark Your Calendar: SlideNight Vancouver is back for volume three of its slide-projected art

Harkening back to the days when Kodachrome slide projectors inhabited the home of seemingly every family—used to show off photographs of vacations and special occasions—SlideNight Vancouver is back for its third installment.

The quarterly salon, which launched at the Capture Photography Festival in April and highlights the work of both emerging and long-applauded photographers, is headed to the Downtown Eastside’s Gallery 881 on November 23.

Curated by John Goldsmith, Julie Lee, and Roger Larry, Vol. III features four artists showcasing lens-based work: Mark Lewis, who has shown at the Louvre and who represented Canada at the 2009 Venice Biennale; Marian Penner Bancroft, who won the 2012 Audain Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts and who is a founding member of The Vancouver School; Michelle Sound, who recently exhibited at Art Toronto; and Alison Powell, who has a master of art history from the City College of New York and who is currently an assistant curator at the West Vancouver Art Museum.

Whether or not you ever gathered around a slide projector to watch chatterbox Uncle Larry brag about his cruise to Alaska, this event sounds like a lot of nostalgic fun.
