Vancouver’s most mysterious artist space Boom Box back with two shows
Boom Box is perhaps the most mysterious (and therefore exciting) artist space in Vancouver right now.
Shows take place in a trailer, for one thing. Tickets are bought by simply transferring the money (a very fair $15) to a gmail address, for another. Participating artists give very little information about what their performances will entail, for yet another. In a recent email, the company promises “Bar | Snacks | Hangs” and not much else.
Intrigued? You should be.
Clearly this is a place for experimentation, and boundary-pushing, and exploration—a place for budding professional performance artists to try new things in a forgiving, albeit unconventional, setting. Honestly, we are here for it.
Sponsored by dance troupe Company 605, Boom Box’s next show is a double bill of dance performances featuring Natasha Dennison, as well as the debut work from new collaborators Satya Mari and Ryan Jackson.
Here’s all the information we could scrounge up:
When: November 29 and December 1 at 6pm
Where: 44 West 4th Avenue
Tickets: $15; send an etransfer to vancouverboombox@gmail.com (note: the company says no one will be turned away due to a lack of funds, so just send them an email if you need more accessible pricing)
Seating: Wooden bleachers
Washrooms: Available via The Birdhouse next to the trailer
Accessibility: The venue is not currently wheelchair accessible, but the organizers are hoping to change that soon
Warmth: Apparently it’s not heated in there, so bring a good coat
