Tom Petty shows he still has it after all these years

This morning, a two-and-a-half-year-old article by Straight music writer John Lucas was suddenly topping the trending section on Straight.com.

The headline, "Tom Petty's not too worried about the Strokes ripping off his tune", was ancient news, so I wondered what was going on.

Normally when something like this resurfaces from the vault, somebody famous has died—and there are tons of searches on Google for articles about the person.

But no, Petty isn't dead. And as far as I can tell, none of the Strokes has kicked the bucket, either.

So what accounts for the sudden burst of Tom Petty fever?

It turns out that the 66-year-old musician and the Heartbreakers are playing Wrigley Field in Chicago today. And people must be cranked up about the show because it's causing a torrent of web traffic to our site.

He'll be in Philadelphia on Saturday (July 1) and Canandaigua, New York, on Sunday (July 2).

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will play Rogers Arena in Vancouver on August 17.

Watch a video of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers playing "American Girl" in Pittsburgh on June 9.
