After four years in business, Shanti's Curries has closed down on 4191 Main Street (at King Edward Avenue).

The petite location first temporarily closed for the summer on May 24 but later announced a permanent closure on June 21.

In a farewell note posted on the restaurant's website, owner Danila Shaw stated that opening the business was the most challenging thing she had ever done—as was closing it.

"It has brought me immeasurable joy and a healthy amount of pain," Shaw stated. "Every moment was worth it, every person I have met, every kind word, every burn, cut and tear, it has all been worth it."

The concise menu was based upon Shaw's mother's recipes and feature homestyle Indian curry.

Offerings included chicken roce curry, beef Chettinad, Malabar fish curry (with Pacific cod), sambar dahl, samosa chaat, and more.

With a dedication to sustainability, the restaurant used non-GMO rice, free-range and grass-fed meats from B.C., and organic dairy products and produce.

Elsewhere on Main Street, Charlie's Little Italian also closed down at 2610 Main Street (at East 10th Avenue).
