I am Scared For My Kids

They finished university and can't get full time work. They all get contract jobs which is code for no benefits and shit pay and they can get rid of you for any reason. Buying a house is just a dream for them. I don't know how to help them. They work about 70 hours a week at 3 contract jobs but its just not enough and everyone's just depressed all the time because they don't see a way out. How are they supposed to get married when everything's temporary. I am scared for my kids future and I don't know how to help them.

I'd like to alleviate your fear but you should be scared. The country is getting worse every year. People have no rights anymore. The rich get richer and the poor are dying. We will all be paying for health care soon enough.

Our government will not help

Dec 7, 2016 at 7:15am

Our government is invested in providing jobs for new Canadians but not Canadians that grew up here, and it is really beginning to show. I think the government should help new Canadians at more appropriate times-- not on the cusp of an international financial collapse!

I know lots of educated people suffering too. I am on contract with no rights as well. I am still one of the lucky ones though.

Marriage?

Dec 7, 2016 at 8:26am

What does marriage have to do with it?

My guess is your children when to university and took general studies and now got hit with the reality that means nothing in the job market. There are tons of jobs out there intact I am currently hiring for 8 full time positions all pay 6 figures, but can't find anyone qualified or will to put in the effort. Our economy is strong, and jobs are good. Choices around education coupled with entitlement is at an all time bad.

leave the region. I did, and while I won't say its sunshine and unicorns all around, its better than staying in a place only for the wealthy.

It's great that you care about your kids

but please don't impose the old-fashioned idea onto them that they can't live a happy, fulfilling life without being married an/or having children.

Nothing to be scared of. You baby boomers got a free ride and they have to pay for your generations lax environmental regulations and wastage of money. You basically destroyed the world and now they have to pick up the pieces.

Time to move

Dec 7, 2016 at 11:28am

I was born and raised in Vancouver and in the early 90s I had to move to the island to be able to afford to buy a house. Sadly, they may have to move for work. I hated leaving my home town and I still miss what it was when I left, but I now have a great life and home. Sadly Vancouver has become even more affordable, and it is not the same city I left. I miss what it was, not what it is.

very very short sited thinking. My kids all got great university degrees and moved to Asia where they live fantastic lives with homes and vacations to all corners of the globe. You old stock just think far too local.
