The six-day Cherie Smith JCCGV Jewish Book Festival is still some weeks away (it starts November 23), but you won’t have to wait that long to meet a couple of the compelling authors whom organizers are bringing to town this year. If you’re feeling flush, you can attend an intimate $100-per-ticket reception for famed novelist Anne Michaels. The Sunday-morning (October 27) salon will focus on Correspondences, her latest book. A second event takes place at 5:30 p.m. the next day (October 28), when emerging Israeli novelist Shani Boianjiu discusses her widely praised 2012 work, The People of Forever Are Not Afraid, at Hillel Vancouver on the UBC campus. Admission is by donation. Details of these events and more are at jccgv.com/.
