The Vancouver International Auto Show is where the Canadian Association of Automotive Journalists of Canada ordinarily designates the country's most environmentally friendly vehicles.

However, this year's COVID-19 pandemic meant that the announcement had to take place on Facebook Live.

The 2020 Canadian Green Car of the Year is the Nissan LEAF Plus. It's the second consecutive win for the electric economy vehicle.

"The Nissan LEAF Plus is symbolic of not only the numerous benefits it provides to its customers, but also represents Nissan's overall dedication to facilitate zero-emission mobility for generations to come," Nissan Canada president Steve Milette said in a news release.  The momentum continues to build for electric cars in Canada, and the AJAC Canadian Green Car of the Year Award shines a light on this important segment."

The other finalists were the Nissan Altima and Volvo V60 Polestar.

The 2020 Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year is the Hyundai Kona Electric, which offers a 415-kilometre range.

It was up against the Hyundai Nexo and the Jaguar I-PACE, which was AJAC's 2019 and 2020 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year.
