More than two dozen suspects have been arrested and Vancouver police have recommended more than 80 charges in connection with thefts from motor vehicles.

It was part of a monthlong crackdown in downtown Vancouver following a sharp rise in auto break-ins in November.

“Theft from auto is a preventable crime and we all have a role to play in decreasing the number of break-ins," Const. Jason Doucette said in a news release. "We watched suspects go from car to car in search of property. Do not leave anything visible in your vehicle.”

Many of the suspects are allleged "repeat offenders" who are breaching court-imposed conditions, according to the VPD.

In November 2017, there were 1,238 reports of theft from motor vehicles. That was up from 892 in the same month of 2016.
