The discovery of trees being illegally felled on the North Shore has prompted a police investigation.

On the morning of December 20, residents near Lynnmour-Jaycee House community hall (located at 1251 Lillooet Road in North Vancouver) heard a tree falling, which they assumed was a result of the windstorm.

However, residents realized that it had been cut down with a saw upon seeing the stump.

North Vancouver RCMP released this photo of a tree stump that was discovered near Lynnmour Jaycee House in North Vancouver.

North Vancouver RCMP stated in a news release that this incident is the second to occur within the past few months. Another tree in proximity also has evidence of being deliberately cut down, and residents have expressed concerns to police about the potential danger of trees falling on a pathway or playground nearby.

The District of North Vancouver and police have examined the site but have not been able to determine who is responsible.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.

Meanwhile in Vancouver, the Vancouver Park Board (VPB) and Vancouver Police Department (VPD) are also investigating after the VPB discovered on January 3 that eight conifers that were "intentionally vandalized" at the foot of Tolmie Street at Spanish Banks.

Anyone with information about this vandalism is asked to contact the VPD or Crime Stoppers.
