Three fires in rapid succession has led to an evacuation order at a homeless camp in Maple Ridge.

No injuries have been reported at Anita Place, which sustained significant damage.

Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Selina Robinson issued a statement saying that the province is "offering significant support" to the campers.

"We have activated Emergency Social Services to make sure that everyone who has been evacuated can access shelter, food, and health and social services," Robinson said. "The safety of the community, and the residents being evacuated, is our immediate focus."

The evacuation order and the fires came after the District of Maple Ridge obtained an injunction in B.C. Supreme Court.

That's prompted suspicion among some of the homeless people who were living in the camp.

Meanwhile, the Ridge Meadows RCMP said in a statement that police have common-law powers to create an operational exclusion zone to maintain public safety and ensure that officers aren't put in any danger.

"This safe operational exclusionary zone is as small as possible based on security and safety needs with a focus of allowing a safe and orderly working space for the implementation of the Fire Service Act Evacuation Order," the detachment stated on its website. "For the time being, the police will remain at scene to maintain their keep-the-peace role."
