Vancouver park board says Trout Lake remains closed to skaters

For now, Vancouver residents are going to have to forget about pretending they're a young Wendel Clark racing up the wing in John Hendry Park.

That's because the Vancouver park board is keeping Trout Lake closed today and tomorrow to ice skaters.

It's possible that the outdoor rink could reopen later in the week.

"Our ice patrol staff have been on site this morning and have observed many slushy spots on the lake," the park board said in a statement. "The rain has softened the surface ice and produced a very uneven surface. We have determined that the ice is not safe for the public and warning signs remain around Trout Lake. Ice patrol and park rangers will be patrolling the area."

Starting on Wednesday (January 11), the park board will provide updates over its social-media channels at noon every day. No other park board ponds are considered safe for skating.

However, it is possible to skate on top of Grouse Mountain and at Como Lake in Coquitlam.
