knowing when to let go

I have some friends who have taken to social media and crowdfunding to raise funds for their ailing dog. Now that’s cute and all, and I respect their tenacity and resourcefulness. I feel for them and I also feel a bit of a Scrooge, for not helping. But for me to support a cause with my money, it has to make sense. Scraping together thousands for a pet that’s 14, and has already cost you enough that you have to ask for help, does not make sense. Actually I think it’s a rather selfish ask

I often feel that people are keeping their pets alive not for the animal’s sake, but for their own. Letting an animal pass when it’s their time is the kindest thing to do, even though it’s heartbreaking. We have to think about their quality of life, not just how long it is. I’ve been there myself and it was incredibly hard, but I did it for her, not for me.

.. For the dog either. Let it die.
