Always a sinner never a saint

As much as I like my future mother in law (FMIL)and try to get along with her there are SOME things that I won’t put up with, from anybody, let alone future extended family. My FMIL has crossed a line that I can not look past by sending me religious type YouTube videos, of her particular faith. ( I tried to be courteous to her and tried to watch the videos but couldn’t watch more than a few minutes) In all the years prior to dating her son, I’ve made it clear to her that I have absolutely zero interest in any sort of religion, she has never done something of this nature. I can’t imagine what triggered or influenced her to do such a thing and I’m unsure of HOW I should respond back to her. I’ve thought of a few responses, (1)Be honest and tell her I tried, I still have zero interest, thank you !. (2)Send her videos on ALL the reasons I can’t stand any religion, but still tolerate them, for the sake of humanity and personal respect. (3)Or just ignore her, cause I don’t know what else to do.

(4) Send her videos by Peter Boghossian or Richard Dawkins about Atheism. She sends you another one, send her a video by Christopher Hitchens. He wrote God Is Not Great.

You should read the book, A Manual for Creating Atheists by Peter Boghossian. He can teach anyone to become a street preacher but preach Atheism. When confronted with people like your mother-in-law, you turn it around and give them a taste of their own medicine.

Just be honest

Tell her that you respect her right to have her own opinion about her faith, but that that you also have your own beliefs. Tell her you’d appreciate it that she refrains from sending you anything like that in the future. This is one of those test situations where how you respond can set the stage for future interactions with her. You have to stand your ground because she is definitely crossing a boundary by doing that.

(5) Send her some unhinged, bat-shit insane, fringe religious videos and thank her for helping you discover this true path.

What about

your future husband? Where does he stand? I wouldn't get into engaging in the activity of sending videos back and forth - it just means you're willing to play. Maybe say you'll make your own decisions as an adult and that she has sent you enough to look at for now.

Tell her to stop.

She’s out of line and needs to be told politely to stop.

Oh crap!

Just ignore them...people expressing opinions... it’s not that difficult and a WHOLE lot smarter than dissing her beliefs. She will understand after getting to know you better that it’s just not your cup of tea.

relax, why don you ask her why she sent you the videos. Instead of assuming anything, or taking it personally- just relax, and ask her why she sent you the videos. and then you can provide a response, respectfully- but first ask. don't assume anything.
