I think the guy who lives across from me is dead

We live in buildings separated by a street and I can see his window. He used to be there all the time - I'd see him pretty much every day. Then, about 1.5 months ago, I noticed that the light was always on and the window was always open and he wasn't there. And it's been like that ever since. Window hasn't moved (regardless of weather). The lights got turned off a week ago - probably an unpaid bill. I think he's in there dead somewhere. And on-one has noticed because the open window would lessen any smell.

Call the authorities ...
Call building management ...
Do your duty as a concerned citizen...
Do what you should have done, as a decent human being, after the first few days...
Do what you would wish that someone seeing you in the same situation would do ....

The smell comment defies physics. If there was a dead body in there for all that time, there is no way a simple open window would shield it. The moment the wind blows in the window the smell would be everywhere.
Just communicate your concern to the building manager for goodness sakes!

I do neighbour watching too but it's not as juicy as that. In my case, one of them is up at 5am, but the spouse is up until 3am. Something going on there.

A)they fell in love and are with their lover 25/7
B)like the rest if us, they lost their job, are depressed and keeping weird hours, watching Netflix in the bedroom at odd hours...

Knock, check, or tell someone, ffs! The fact this has gone on for a month and a half and all you've done is post it here is a sign of the apocalypse, basically.

Call police and ask for a welfare check. They'll know what to do.

Some people want to be left alone. Are you always home observing his behaviour to the point you'd notice his comings and goings at all hours? That sounds remarkably intrusive, so maybe you're the ones with the problem? If you really cared about his health, you wouldn't write a post about it. This is just drama probably by a very nosy neighbour with no life.

Contact the building manager or VPD to do a wellness check. A friend of mine died alone and no one found him for over a month. It was truly horrific.

They leave the lights on in empty apartments. Maybe dude was extra stinky, and they're letting it air out for the new tenants.
