After a brief breather for the holidays, Feast & Friends is back at DD Mau and the third volume is coming in hot. On February 1, the Chinatown favourite is hosting a one-night-only collaboration that pairs chef Tyler Hoang with chef Benedict Lim of Michelin Bib Gourmand–awarded The Lunch Lady. Consider this your cue to cancel whatever Sunday plans you thought you had.
The premise is simple and a little chaotic in the best way; two Vietnamese kitchens, one dining room and zero interest in playing it safe. The result is a multi-course menu that takes comfort food detours galore.
“When two Vietnamese restaurants join forces, we want to create something that’s so unexpected, something that takes our creativity to the next level and we couldn’t think of any better collaborator than Chef Ben and his team at Lunch Lady,” shares Kim Tran of DD Mau Chinatown in a release.
The menu leans playful without losing the essense of Vietnamese dining. Think oysters two ways with fish sauce-cured salmon roe and chả giò, spot prawn carpaccio and a bánh xèo tostada. Mains keep the remix energy going, including a bún bò Huế lasagna layered with Laughing Cow cheese béchamel and a Vietnamese chicken curry served pot pie-style. Dessert closes things out with Vietnamese coffee sticky toffee pudding and chilled silken tofu.
Behind the bar, Wayne Chou and his team from newly opened Nomo Nomo will be mixing Japanese izakaya-inspired cocktails designed to keep pace with the food. Expect drinks that are bright, crushable and dangerously easy to say yes to twice.
