Michelin Guide partners with Turo for special Drive to Table experience

The Michelin brand of today is one of luxury—perfectly executed multi-course meals, impeccable rooms and wine lists, overall culinary excellence (and oh so many foams). Many forget that the humble beginnings of the Michelin Guide have roots in the long, open road.

Originally created to inspire people to take more road trips (and thus, buy more tires), the Michelin Guide represents a rare case where the brand offshoot becomes bigger than the brand. Now focused on celebrating restaurants that are worth the detour, it is undoubtedly the biggest and most important food recommender in the world.

In any case, it’s perhaps synergistic that the Michelin Guides in Vancouver and Toronto have partnered with Turo (essentially Airbnb for cars) to created Drive to Table: a limited-edition experience that combines the best of driving and eating.

Basically, if you book one of the participating vehicles on Saturdays between October 28 and December 16, you’ll find yourself reaping delicious benefits. In Vancouver, there are two restaurant itineraries (each curated by the participating restaurant’s chef) to choose from: Kissa Tanto and St. Lawrence, both of which have one Michelin Star.

      Joël Watanabe of Kissa Tanto.

      Here’s what’s included:

      • A one-day reservation of the chef’s selected vehicle, including free delivery
        • Kissa Tanto itinerary: Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class 2019
        • St. Lawrence itinerary: Audi Q4 e-tron 2023
      • A chef-curated driving itinerary for the day
      • A reservation and dinner for two at the particpating restaurant
      • An exclusive interaction with the restaurant’s chef at your table
      • A one-night stay at the luxe Fairmont Pacific Rim

You can reserve a participating car (limited quantities are available) starting October 13 at 10am PST either online or in the Turo app. Packages start at $250 and are available on a first come, first served basis.

It’s kind of like being a tourist in your own city, which is something we could all stand to do a little more. Whether or not you partake in this particular experience, consider getting behind the wheel of your car (or an Evo, or something else on Turo) and exploring a part of the city you haven’t been to before. Nothing helps you fall in love with your home like seeing it with fresh eyes.
